The vision of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Biga Vocational School Food Technology Program to be a department that contributes to science, technology, industry and society within the scope of sustainable development goals with its education, training and research activities, produces innovative products and technological solutions by evaluating the food system from every angle, and is recognized on a national and international platform.

Mission

The mission of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Biga Vocational School Food Technology Program is to train competent food technıcıans who know the food system and are capable of applying the necessary technologies for the healthy and safe production, processing, and preservation of food products, guided by their scientific education the goal is to educate food technıcıans who are committed to sustainability and innovation, actively follow developments in science and technology, and contribute to the field while upholding professional and ethical responsibilities.

The objectives of The Food Technology program is to have theoretical and practical knowledge about food raw materials, food composition, processing, physical, chemical and microbiological quality control, food safety and food legislation, With this knowledge, it is to train the manpower that can work with the title of "Food Technician" in production and quality control laboratories in the food industry.

What are the Job Descriptions and Duties of Food Technicians?

Job description:

Food Technician ensures that foodstuffs are produced, packaged, stored, collected and transported in accordance with health conditions; They take part in preventing physical, chemical and microbiological contamination. At the same time It is a person who interprets the data with the responsible supervisor who performs sensory, physical, chemical, physiological and microbiological controls and analyzes in samples taken from foods.

Duties:

  • To apply hygiene and sanitation rules
  • Checking and regulating storage conditions
  • Making preparations before analysis
  • To prepare the sample for analysis
  • Sensory, physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of the sample
  • Making post-analysis operations

Job Opportunities for Food Technicians

Students who graduate from the Food Technology Program are given the title of "Food Technician". Graduates of Food Processing Department programs can work as Food Technicians in public and private sector organizations related to the food industry, or become responsible managers in some food businesses. It is also possible to work in their own businesses.

Graduation Conditions and Degree:

Graduates who successfully complete the Food Technology Programs; They are eligible to become Food Technicians and receive an associate degree from the Food Processing Department. Students who successfully complete at least 120 ECTS courses are entitled to receive an associate degree. Students must successfully complete industry-based training before graduation (30 working days).

Food Technology Program Lessons

In the Food Technology Program curriculum; Ataturk's Principles and History of Revolution, Turkish Language and English courses, in order to improve basic knowledge and provide infrastructure for the field; In Food Technology, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Basic Microbiology, Basic Mathematics, Food Preservation and Packaging Techniques, Food Additives, Food Health Reliability and Food Legislation, Food Hygiene and Sanitation courses are given. In the second year, in order to gain professional qualifications; Vegetable Oil Technology, Dairy Products Technology, Meat Products Technology, Fruit and Vegetable Processing Technologies, Organic Agriculture and Bakery Products Technology, Ready Meal Systems and Special Foods Technology, Food Technologies Applications, Food Analysis Applications, Food Additives, Food Machinery, Food Packaging Technology, Functional Food Production and Nutrition Principles courses are given.
